Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
Huffman & Carpenter, Inc.
wrote a grant proposal and secured funding for research into restoration and
water quality treatment strategies for the treatment of urban runoff within
Stream Environment Zones (SEZ).
In particular, the objectives of
the study were to:
-
Develop a watershed
level approach to evaluate SEZ restoration needs, criteria, and design
guidelines;
-
Assess the
condition of SEZs within targeted watersheds to identify where and if treatment
of runoff occurs;
-
Field
test the classification system and condition assessment in conjunction with
collecting additional data on vegetation, hydrology, soils, and geomorphology as
they relate to SEZ function;
-
Assess the impacts of urban runoff on SEZ processes and functions and assess the
capacity of SEZs to treat urban runoff;
-
Develop strategies
for the treatment of urban runoff based upon the preceding information.
